Gary was born and raised in Hollis, Oklahoma. He moved to Altus in 1964 and graduated from Altus High School in 1966. He continued his education at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus and Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Gary served 4 years in the U.S. Navy, which included a tour of duty in Viet Nam. After returning from the navy, he served as a firefighter and a police officer for the city of Altus for 6 years.
In 1976, Gary and Dixie were married and have one son, Chris.
In 1978, Gary was accepted to serve as a member of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and served as a Highway Patrol Trooper until his retirment in 2006.
That same year, he began to volunteer on the Plaza Theater building project to remodel the existing structure into the new home of Altus Christian Fellowship. In November of 2006, he began to serve the body as Church Administrator.
On January 28, 2007 Gary was ordained into the ministry at Altus Christian Fellowship. He and Dixie continue to also serve as Life Group Leaders in the ministry.
